It has been such a long time since we have been able to get together for events because of the pandemic restrictions but on Saturday August 28, we celebrated a return with a wonderful luncheon al fresco courtesy of Vancouver’s Terminal City Club. Located in the little park beside the Club is Lot 19, where we had set up our tables and chairs in pleasant sunshine for a delicious meal that was enjoyed by all.

Our reception commenced with Charles de Fère Cuvée Jean Louis, Blanc de Blancs Brut, a non-vintage sparkling wine with non-traditional grapes made in the Champagne region, after which we were seated for a first course of an Heirloom Tomato Salad with local organic heirloom tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, burrata, crisp prosciutto and a peach dressing accompanied by the fabulous 2010 E. Guigal Condrieu La Doriane, a 100 point wine according to Robert Parker. Next, we enjoyed a delicious Parmesan Crusted Rossdown Farms Chicken Breast with creamy polenta, roasted pepper emulsion, summer squash, grilled corn and a miso walnut bagna cauda paired with a fully mature 2007 Argiano Non Confunditur from Tuscany.

Between courses a Lemon Sorbetto with Blueberries was served before our final course of Greek Yogurt Panna Cotta with summer fruits accompanied by a 2013 Château Guiraud Petit Guiraud from the Sauternes region of Bordeaux.

All in all, it was a splendid lunch, beautifully prepared and presented with impeccable service. Kudos to the Terminal City Club for organizing such a super return to what we hope will become a more regular and normal schedule of events in Vancouver.
